Anna Sui (Encore)

Having browsed through Anna Sui's Fall 2006 runway collection for my previous post, I couldn't resist posting a few more images of her pieces, several of which make use of velvet, peter pan collars, and lace.

Anna Sui for Target

I know this is a little late but...looking back at Anna Sui's 2009 Gossip Girl collection for Target, I realized that the designer translated several runway pieces from her Fall 2006 show into remarkably similar and marketable ensembles for the consumer with little cash to spend. Out of all the designer collaborations sponsored by Target, Anna Sui's was by far my favorite for her distinctive style truly comes out in the pieces she produced for the retail chain.

Bicycle Race

Fendi Bicycle, $9,995
This bicycle is like a dream come true. It has everything you need to go on a lovely picnic or a little cruise through the country. At that price, however, I'd be worried about scratching it up or leaving it unsupervised. Must be the Fendi carry case and fur satchel that makes this bike so expensive. We can dream a little.

Style Inspiration of the Day

Emily Temple SS11

Tricolor ribbons, biscuits, and republican stripes? These dresses harken back to les Incroyables and late-eighteenth century Parisian fashion.

Meadham Kirchhoff

Ed Meadham and Ben Kirchhoff's spring 2011 collection combines cotton candy hair, fuzz, and kitsch for a completely unique take on the meaning of kawaii. Some of the dresses remind me of Marie Antoinette and have trimmings similar to cake frosting.

Christmas Ornaments

I made this Christmas ornament to add a little Christmas cheer to my room. It's fairly simple to make. I glued a miniature glass doe inside the ornament and added white glitter to make it look like it was sleeping in snow.

Materials:
1 clear plastic ornament
1 pack of snowflake buttons
1 plastic or glass figurine
superglue
glitter
fabric strips or ribbon

Instructions:
1. Open ornament. Glue snowflakes on inside of ornament and allow to dry.
2. Glue figurine on one of the ornament's halves.
3. Holding the half of the ornament that has the figurine glued on it, pour a small amount of glitter into it. Then snap other half over it and make sure the ornament is tightly sealed.
4. Tie ribbon through top loop and add a bow.

Eveline Tarunadjaja 2012 Calendar

Melbourne-based artist Eveline Tarunadjaja has come out with another exquisite calendar for 2012 in tandem with the opening of her show "Threads" at No Vacancy. Visit her website lovexevol.com to buy her merchandise. Tarunadjaja is one of my favorite contemporary artists--her illustrations are delicate yet deeply psychological and emotive.  Anyone else notice the "Black Swan" theme going on here?

Raphaël Personnaz is so mesmerizing as the Duke d'Anjou in La Princesse de Montpensier (2010). He made the Duke d'Anjou appealing for once! I normally don't like male earrings or guy-liner, but Personnaz's portrayal of sixteenth-century metrosexual finesse and nonchalance had me bewitched.

California Move-In Part 1

When my sister came to visit me after I had moved to Berkeley, we decided to decorate my tiny room with pastel colors to create a light and airy mood. We tie-dyed crocheted doilies that I bought at my local dollar store to adorn the walls a la Free People. Then we bought packs of white hangers (also from the dollar store) and entwined them with polka dot fabric, adding bows at the center with fabric glue to spruce them up.

Kitchen Magnets

My sister Jennifer made me really cute mini Polaroid magnets for my fridge. Now whenever I see them, I will think of my family.

The Cube

When my sister visited me in California, we spent an entire day in San Francisco's Japantown. Not only did we get to go inside Daiso (for the first time ever!) and stock up on all sorts of goodies, but we also indulged ourselves with yummy Japanese style crepes stuffed with fruit, whipped cream, and ice cream. After much anticipation, we finally found a kawaii stationery shop. It was a bit disorienting and overwhelming being surrounded on all sides by such cuteness. I was hyperventilating at one point. We also had way too much fun at Pika Pika as can be seen by how much time we spent editing our sticker pictures~<3. Best part about the photo booth, The Cube? It enlarged our eyes! We were in for such a surprise! It's pretty hilarious.

Gia Love

I thought that I would somehow ameliorate my feelings of homesickness by looking at pictures of Gia that I have saved on my laptop. Bad idea. Next thing I knew, I was doing the ugly cry. I miss and love you, Gia! <3 Thanks, Jam, for journaling Gia's life through photographs.

Ahoy There!

Attention, there! I found the cutest sailor top at Topshop (http://topshop.com/). It looks just like the costume that Audrey Hepburn wore on Broadway as Gigi.  You better get your hands on this booty soon because it's nearly sold out in every size, and tops as adorable and retro as this one don't sail into stores that often. The price is a bit expensive--$60, but students get 10% off! And on my sailor's honor, I guarantee that you'll be keeping this one in your wardrobe for ages to come.
